Sacred Valley of the Incas
Departure: 9 am
Returning: 5 pm
You will visit the colonial towns of Pisaq, Yucay, Urubamba, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero, while you are riding along the Vilcanota river (also known as Urubamba). Great places for souvenir shopping.
Lays at 30 km from Cusco, aprox. 45 minutes bus ride away. Indian fairs take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, in the main square, with the visit of many craftsmen that keep their activity running all year long.
It is an impressive and never finished agricultural, administrative, religious, military and social complex. It is located at 97 km from Cusco and is the only authentic inca town left in Peru (unchanged for 500 years), water canals, colonial house, squares and temples.
3700 mts above the sea level. The streets of the village wind up from the lower sections, where transport stops, to the plaza, which is reached through an archway. The great square appears to be stepped, with a magnificent Inca wall separating the two levels. Let into the wall is a row of trapezoidal niches, each much taller than a man. From the paved lower section, another arch leads to an upper terrace, upon which the Spaniards built an attractive church. Very colorful and fascinating Sunday market. Here, the villagers still wear their beautiful, colorful original clothes.
Transportation, Spanish or English guide, buffet lunch and entry tickets.
