City Tour: Surrounding RuinsMorning or Afternoon shift: The tour takes about 6 hours.
Morning pick up: 8:20am Afternoon pick up: 1:30pm
TOUR DESCRIPTION
During this city tour, you will discover the center as well as the most important inca and colonial ruins, surrounding the city, such as Sacsayhuaman, Q’enqo, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. The advantage of the morning shift is that the tour can be made with more time and less tourists at the places to visit.
ITINERARY:
THE CATHEDRAL.- The cathedral is built over the Inca Temple of Viracocha. You will be able to appreciate the impressive colonial art, paintings and the gold covered shrines. Aditional cost: $10/S/. 25 per person.
THE QORICANCHA.- It was the most important religious center of the Inca Empire. It is today run by the Santo Domingo Monastery. To my taste the best, most precise and impressive stone work example.
SACSAYHUAMAN.- It is located 2 km (1.5 miles) of Cusco. Impressive huge archaeological complex, it has three levels and is 360 meters long.
Q’ENQO.- It is located 3 km (2 miles) away from Cusco. In the center of the temple lies a monolithic rock, measuring about 6 mts. This sanctuary is also an astronomical calendar still in use today.
PUKA PUKARA.- It is located 8 km (5.5 miles) from Cusco. This fortress was used to monitor and control the access to Cusco as well as to the Sacred Valley.
TAMBOMACHAY.- It is located 9 km (6 miles) away from Cusco. At this water dedicated temple, you will appreciate beautiful inca sources, which flow all year round until today.
